Medieval / post medieval ridge and furrow ploughing in the parish of Stretton is visible as earthworks and cropmarks centred at SJ 444 530 on historic aerial photography and lidar imagery, though many of the earthworks appear to have been levelled by the latest 2010 vertical imagery.
Large areas of the ridge and furrow appear to be medieval in origin, part of the open field system, and including a number of broad banks which probably represent plough headlands. However, the majority of this ridge and furrow has continued in use into the post medieval period, with straightening and splitting of the broad ridges to create extra furrows. There are also a large number of scattered fields and smaller blocks of ploughing consisting of post medieval narrow ridge and furrow (2-6).
