On 04.02.1941 Wellington IC R1298 took off from RAF Bramcote (Warwickshire)for a training exercise and collided with a barrage balloon which had been protecting the Rolls Royce factory. Alos reported that the aircraft had been fired on by the anti aircraft gunners at the factory. The plane crashed two miles north of Crewe and caught fire. 10 bodies recovered from the crash site.
