Full Description

<1> Peak District National Park Archaeology Service, 2003, Blaze Farm Archaeological Field Survey for the Peak District Environmental Quality Mark Scheme, p.4-5 (Client Report). SCH8567.

The farmstead comprises a two-storey farmhouse to the west and an 'L'-shaped outbuilding to the east. Both are of eighteenth or nineteenth century date and were built prior to 1849 (see 2). They are built from coursed sandstone blocks with a stone slate roof and plain dressed sandstone details.

‘…The farmhouse has two sandstone ridge chimney-stacks on either of its gable ends. The northern wall of the farmhouse is white-washed. In this wall are two ground-floor windows and a door and two first-floor windows. In the eastern and southern walls is a ground-floor window. Against the western wall is a single-storey addition with a door in its western wall and a window in the northern wall…’

‘…In the north-western wall of the outbuilding are three doors and a picking hole at loft level. In the north-eastern wall is a small ground-floor window. In the south-eastern wall are a ground floor door and a loft picking hole. In the south-western wall are a ground-floor window and blocked door…’
