Full Description
<1> Peak District National Park Archaeology Service, 2003, Blaze Farm Archaeological Field Survey for the Peak District Environmental Quality Mark Scheme, p.3 (Client Report). SCH8567.
A shallow gully up to 0.5m deep and between 2m and 2.5m wide; it is probable that this is a hollow-way leading from the direction of Allgreave towards the Buxton to Congleton Turnpike (A54) and Blaze Farm. This was either created by heavy use in the post-medieval period or by prolonged use from the medieval period. Alternatively, it could mark the site of a removed field boundary of post-medieval or earlier date.
<2> Bluesky International Ltd, 2010, 2010 Bluesky Survey, UXP_101025_8458 & UXP_101025_8459, 25/10/2010 (Aerial Photograph). SCH5444.
The earthwork is visible on this aerial imagery.
