in 2018, a large ditch feature was recorded during the excavation of foundation trenches for a building to the north of Holmes Chapel Road, Middlewich. The feature was encountered at three separate points within the foundation trenches. It was aligned broadly north-south and measured up to 3.5m wide and up to 1.8m deep, with sloping sides and a rounded base, giving a V-shaped profile. The fills contained pottery dating to the late first and early second centuries AD. It may represent a continuation of a similary sized ditch encountered during earlier archaeological excavations at Kinderton Manor (ECH3672) and Jersey Way (ECH6191), just to the north, also Prosperity Way (ECH3868), just to the south. The ditch may represent a significant Roman boundary or division.
