Summary

Excavations in 2018 at the former Stagecoach site, Liverpool Road, Chester, recorded a cut feature, 0.47m deep, and interpreted as a possible ditch or pit. It contained three fills which produced a small assemblage of finds, including burnt animal bone representative of domestic food waste, pottery sherds and ceramic building fragments of 1st to 3rd century AD date, also a conglomerate of ash, clay and charcoal. Fragments of post medieval ceramic building material were also recovered but are thought to be a result of later disturbance.

Excavations in 2018 at the former Stagecoach site, Liverpool Road, Chester, recorded a cut feature, centred at SJ 40420 67013, in trench 6; it was 0.47m deep, and interpreted as a possible ditch or pit. It contained three fills which produced a small assemblage of finds, including burnt animal bone representative of domestic food waste, pottery sherds and ceramic building fragments of 1st to 3rd century AD date, also a conglomerate of ash, clay and charcoal. Fragments of post medieval ceramic building material were also recovered but are thought to be a result of later disturbance.
