‘…The name Brundred is first known in this location as Brundritt House, in a reference of 1692, and ‘Brundreth house’ is also marked on Burdett’s map of 1831 (see 2). Sandstone footings which are still visible at the base of walls in parts of the house are consistent with the late seventeenth century and suggest that at this date the building was timber-framed. The…Tithe Map (see 3)…shows a house with a similar footprint to the existing house, and an ancillary range to the south, running alongside and eastwards of the house…’
‘…The 1:2,500 Ordnance Survey map of 1873 (see 4) shows a similar arrangement, but the northern end of the house is shown as a fractionally narrower outshut…Although it is underpinned by sandstone footings the northern cell appears to be an extension, based on its narrower width, purlins not aligned with the main house, and on the inserted accesses to it. The ancillary range had been replaced by an attached linear range which extended slightly west of the house as well as to the east, where it returned to the north. The property is marked on this map as Blunderett. The 1897 1:2,500 (see 5) map shows a similar situation. This is the first map on which the property is marked as Brundred Farm…’
‘…Brundred is said to have been sold…[by]…the Adlington estate and substantially altered…[and renovated during the twentieth century]…
