Summary

Archaeological monitoring and excavation works were carried out in 2013 and 2014 at Grosvenor Park, Chester, as part of a programme of refurbishment. East of the pond in the eastern extent of the park, three Anderson shelters were uncovered, and a fourth was identified just to the north of the pond. These had been cut into the natural clay and covered with redeposited clay. The corrugated roofs of the shelters and the upper sections of the brick supporting walls were visible to a depth of 0.4m below ground level.
