Summary

The Tithe map for Broxton, circa 1840, depicts a long building at Barnhill on the north side of Nantwich Road. The accompanying apportionment records the plot (plot 519) as 'Four Cottages and Garden' owned by William Carr and occupied by Mary Carr, Benjamin Dod, Aaron Probin and John Roden. The properties are also depicted on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of 1872-82, although they are shown as two pairs of semi-detached cottages each with their own strip garden to the north. The properties are similarly depicted on OS Second (1896-98) and Third Edition (1909-12) maps. Air photographs dating to the 1940s show the cottages still to exist, however those dating to the 1970s show that the cottages have been demolished, although the hedge boundaries of the gardens are still present.
