Monument record 14282 - Site of Marley Hall

Summary

The site of Marley Hall as depicted on historic maps. These maps suggest the hall may have been a double ended hall building, though late nineteenth century maps suggest that one end may have been demolished by that time. George Ormerod described the hall as an old black and white timbered house. Nearby was a range of farm buildings, outbuildings and yards. A nearby croft may have been used for the making of bricks. It is possible that this farmstead originated as a possession of Combermere Abbey, but it may also be the original seat of the manor of Marbury. Therefore the farmstead may have medieval origins. Below ground archaeological remains are expected to survive in this area.
