Full Description
<1> See map for surveyor, c.1837-51, Cheshire Tithe Maps and Awards (Maps and Plans). SCH3266.
The Tithe map for Thelwall township (1845) depicts a small building on the south bank of the Bridgewater Canal, to the east of Pickering Bridge. The building is not recorded in the tithe apportionment but the adjacent field, plot 284, is named 'Boat House Field', owned by William Nicholson and occupied by Henry Beckett. It seems probable, therefore, that the building is the boat house. It appears on Ordnance Survey First Edition mapping of 1872-82 (source 2), but has disappeared by the Second Edition of 1896-98 (source 3).
