Excavations at Gorsestacks in 2015/16 found post-medieval activity was limited to the significant deposition of thick layers of soil and rubble sealing the 15th century deposit (CHER 11491), in area 2 . These deposits produced an assemblage of pottery and clay tobacco pipes dating to the second half of the 17th century, along with other finds, and demonstrated unequivocally that this area of Chester had become utilised for mass refuse disposal during the post-medieval period.
