Full Description
<1> Garry Miller Historic Building Consultancy, 2018, Heritage Assessment for Barrow Farm, Croft (Client Report). SCH8399.
It is a large brick-built edifice dating from the mid-late 19th century and existing by 1893 as the historic mapping has shown. It is built end-on to the lane, where its buttressed gable is prominent in public views but the remainder is masked by the attached mid-20th century hay barn and the vehicle shed. Internally it has a series of kingpost trusses typical of its date
As the only surviving original farm building, this is most significant of all the outbuildings. This significance derives primarily from its appearance and presence within the farmstead as a substantial mid-late 19th century Dutch barn, along with its group value with the farmhouse. However its significance is compromised by the fact that it is swamped by the mid-late 20th century outbuildings
