Full Description
<1> CFA Archaeology Ltd, 2017, Vale Road, Alpraham, Cheshire. Archaeological Evaluation: Geophysical Survey and Trial Trenching (Client Report). SCH8372.
Archaeological evaluation trenches in 2017 recorded the foundations of a building, a ditch and pits, all potentially of post medieval date. The building is potentially that depicted on the tithe map (source 2) with the plot name 'Robin Hood Croft'; pottery and ceramic building material were recovered of eighteenth and nineteenth century date. The ditch is not depicted on tithe or Ordnance Survey mapping, so perhaps had fallen out of date by the mid eighteenth century; two pieces of abraded eighteenth century pottery were recovered from its fill. The pits are thought to relate to the former building given to the utilitarian nature of the pottery recovered.
