Full Description

<1> Portable Antiquities Scheme, Various, Portable Antiquities Data Import, LVPL-B505C3 (Digital Archive). SCH5212.

Copper alloy handle from a metal vessel such as a pipkin or posnet. A copper alloy rectangular bar which is broken at one end. The unbroken end has rounded corners, narrows slightly and is thinner than the rest of the bar. One surface has two incised ring and dot decorations, one at each end. All other surfaces are clear from decoration but they are worn and scratched. A similar handle with ring and dot decoration has been dated to the 13-14th centuries (see 2) but this vessel type was used from the 13th century to the 18th century so this should be taken into consideration when dating the object.
