Monument record 14054 - Linear Cropmarks at Aston Hall

Please read our .

Summary

A complex of linear cropmarks visible on oblique aerial photographs. Cropmarks are visible changes in the growth of vegetation that may indicate a buried feature. There is a regular network of parallel cropmarks c.10m apart and which may be caused by underlying field drainage. Within this area are two slightly curving linear cropmarks which converge on the ponds at Well Plantation and two further linear cropmarks orientated north-west to south-east. These are possibly former field boundaries from the pre-parkland landscape.

A complex of linear cropmarks visible on oblique aerial photographs (see 1). The complex comprises a regular network of parallel cropmarks c.10m apart and aligned east-north-east to west south-west. At their western extent is a further linear cropmark aligned at ninety degrees. West of this feature is a further complex on a differing alignment. It is probable that these cropmarks are caused by underlying field drainage. Within this area are two slightly curving linear cropmarks which converge on the ponds at Well Plantation (see 2). It is not readily apparent if these features pre or post-date the possible field drains. To the north-east are two further linear cropmarks orientated north-west to south-east. These are possibly former field boundaries from the pre-parkland landscape.
