Full Description
<1> Higham N J, 1984-9, Professor Nick Higham's Aerial Photographs, 1988/2/1/4 & 1988/2/1/6-7 (Aerial Photograph). SCH7659.
A linear earthwork visible on this aerial photograph may be the remains of a large ditch or trackway.
<2> Historic England & Archaeological Research Services, 2017, Cheshire National Mapping Programme and Lidar Mapping Project: Sampling the Peak Fringe, Cheshire Plain and Mersey Valley, 1598188 (Digital Archive). SCH8172.
A hollow way of medieval or post medieval origin is visible as extant earthworks centred at approximately SJ 9576 8305 on aerial photography. The trackway runs for around 315 metres east to west, bifurcating into two routes at its western end. It survives in both pasture for most of its length, and woodland at its eastern end.
A potential continuation of the hollow way is visible in open ground around 180m to the east. In the open pasture to the south-east of Platt Wood Farm, the hollow way appears to cut a rectilinear enclosure of possible medieval or post medieval date in its central section and terminates to the west at a post medieval rectilinear enclosure attached to Platt Wood Farm (see 3 & 4).
<3> Royal Air Force, 1944-1947, 1940s RAF Aerial Photographs from Operation Review, RAF/3G/TUD/UK/108 Vp1 5087, 01/04/1946 (Aerial Photograph). SCH8041.
<4> Next Perspectives, 2010, Aerial Photography for Great Britain, Next Perspectives APGB Imagery (2010), SJ9583, 17/10/2010 (Aerial Photograph). SCH8173.
<5> Oxford Archaeology North, 2007, Lyme Park, Cheshire; Non-Intensive Survey and Desk-Based Study, p.70, site: 52848*0 (Client Report). SCH4773.
A possible hollow way running downslope from near Crow Wood. The site is curvilinear in nature and has well defined edges; its depth varies from 2m and 0.5m. Although the site could potentially have a riverine origin, its association with other sites in the area suggest an anthropogenic origin.
