A post medieval coal mining site is visible as a group of loosely clustered shafts and associated mounds centred at approximately SJ 948 788 on lidar imagery and the latest 2010 / 2011 vertical photography. The southern-most shaft mound appears to be linked to an associated trackway, embanked in places (2-3).

This map depicts five sub-circular plantations between Pott Hall and Berristall Hall labelled Old Shaft (Coal). A further shaft is also depicted, which is associated with a trackway which runs south west to join the trackway serving Berristall Hall.

Depicts two possible shafts served by a trackway which adjoins Spuley Lane to the west. Also depicts some of the plantations visible on (4).

Approximately 300 metres to the south of the group of shafts depicted on the Ordnance Survey 1871-3 map is a sub-circular earthwork also labelled Old Shaft (Coal) served by a trackway which runs west to join Spuley Lane. In addition, a small woodland adjacent t the lane is depicted as containing an earthwork and is labelled Old Shafts (Coal).

A post medieval coal mining site is visible as earthworks centred at approximately SJ 9470 7852 on lidar imagery. The site is obscured by tree cover on the latest 2010 vertical aerial photography. A large extractive pit measuring 67 x 31 metres at maximum extents is the site of a coal shaft marked on first edition Ordnance Survey mapping. The pit is connected to the main road of Spuley Lane by an earthwork trackway (2, 3 & 4).
