Summary

In 2013 excavations in advance of development at Lea Manor Farm recorded a ditch (feature 21), located to the north-west of the farm. It measured approximately 1.5-2.4m wide and was orientated north-east/south-west. The lower fill of the ditch contained eighteenth century pottery fragments. The upper fill was dominated by sherds of pottery dating from the late eighteenth to nineteenth centuries but also contained a variety of earlier material. This boundary was marked on the 1830s Tithe Map, where it divided George Pulford’s farm at Lea Manor from James Mullock’s, who farmed from Aldford village as a tenant of Mrs Margaret Harrison.

In 2013 excavations in advance of development at Lea Manor Farm recorded a ditch (feature 21), located to the north-west of the farm. It measured approximately 1.5-2.4m wide and was orientated north-east/south-west. The lower fill of the ditch contained eighteenth century pottery fragments. In 2015 a further phase of archaeological investigation occurred at Lea Manor Farm in advance of the construction of a large cow building on the west side of the complex. It identified a further 76m stretch of the boundary ditch first excavated in 2013.
