Summary

Careved snadstone head dating from the nineteenth century. It may belong to the group of stone heads from Britain which on stylistic grounds are termed 'Celtic', but which show continuity into the Post Medieval period.

Full Description

Stone head carved with well defined but rather schematic facial features. The nose and mouth are particularly detailed and it has large eyes. It is carved from a sandstone block and the side and back of head are unworked. It may belong to the group of stone heads from Britain which on stylistic grounds are termed 'Celtic', but which show continuity into the Post Medieval period. Possibly nineteenth century in date.

Stone head carved with well defined but rather schematic features, nose and mouth are particularly detailed. Large lentoid eyes resembles 'Celtic' carved head. Carved from sandstone. Side and back of head unworked.
