Archaeological investigations in the cellar at Cromwell Court in 2017 identified features of Roman and Saxon date. An east west linear gully cutting into the natural clay and, to the south, the north side of a sandstone surface. The sandstone surface was sealed by a soil surface which had been cut by a handful of pit and posthole features. Dating evidence was sparse but finds of Roman pottery and ceramic building materials were recovered along with Late Saxon pottery.
