A worn copper alloy trumpet brooch dating from c. first to second centuries AD. The trumpet brooch has a typical oval head shape and is a hinged example. The hinge and pin are missing. The bow arches out from the head and tapers towards the foot which is incomplete. The bow is D-shaped in cross-section. The bow is decorated with an oval waist moulding with a horizontal groove above and below.A slight rise is all that remains of the catchplate. There is no visible decoration and the object is pitted in places with a light green patina. A number of similar brooches of this type can be seen in (3). It can be dated from AD75-175. Dimensions: 37.48mm in length, 10.30mm in width, 7.34mm thick, 5.1g.
