Full Description
<1> Portable Antiquities Scheme, Various, Portable Antiquities Data Import, LVPL-CEFFC4 (Digital Archive). SCH5212.
A lead weight dating from the Roman to post medieval periods (c.AD 43-1700). The weight is elongated oval in plan and circular in cross section. There is a central circular perforation the full length of the object. There are traces of fibrous material in one end of the object. The perforation has an internal diameter of 5.55mm. The weight has a powdery pale brown to white patina. Length: 47.04mm; diameter: 20.87mm; weight: 83.15g.
PAS notes: There are many lead weights to be found on the database. The shape and style of this weight could suggest that it is probably a line or fishing weight. See YORYM-50E11C for a similar shaped weight from Yorkshire. However, this example appears to have been cast, where the Yorkshire example appears to have been produced by rolling a sheet of lead.
