Large lead vessel repair or pot mend. These mends were used throughout the roman and medieval periods as a result these are extremely difficult to date unless there is datable ceramic evidence within the repair. Therefore, this object is dated AD c 43-1500. The plug of lead, which presumably fitted in the hole to be repaired, is sub-rounded and is 30-31mm in diameter. The estimated wall thickness of the repaired vessel is 6.8mm. The sheet of lead that forms the rest of the object is between 3mm and 6mm thick. It is sub-rounded with one straight cut edge. Length: 63mm; width: 61mm; thickness (including lug): 18mm; weight: 224.75g.
