A silver Roman miliarensis of Theodosius I (AD 379-395), dating to the period AD 379-383 (Reece period 20). VOTIS V MVLTIS X reverse type with the legend within a wreath. Mint of Trier. This is an unlisted miliarensis type for Theodosius I, probably a variant of RIC IX, p. 24, no. 52 with reverse type RIC IX, p. 25, cf. no. 59b - see 2). Another example has been recorded through the PAS in a hoard group from Dorset (see 3); see also an example published on Wildwinds.com (see 4). Below the emperor's nose on the obverse of the coin is a die flaw. Next to the die flaw is a linear scratch running from the hairline of the ruler down to his drapery.
