A probable piece of casting waste of uncertain date. The object is U-shaped in plan and irregular in cross section. One face is relatively flat and smooth while the opposite face is of varying thickness. Adhering to the object is a black carbon deposit often found on the feet of cooking vessels. It is possible that this object is a medieval cooking vessel foot such as LVPL-142D8A or LVPL-4CD149 (see 2) however due to the uneven thickness this is questionable. Casting waste is very hard to date in isolation. As casting waste represents re-usable metal, it was often retained and regularly turns up in founder's hoards. It can however also be found in isolation. Dimensions: 35mm in length, 40mm in width, 15mm thick, 63.8g.
