A complete post-medieval copper-alloy trade weight possibly issued during the reign of Charles I (1625-1649) - George III (1760-1820). It is a dished weight, flat and circular in form with a prominent and raised outer rim on the upper face. The centre of the upper side is marked with an incuse design consisting of the letters GR beneath a crown. Below this is another an incuse design consists of the letters CC below a crown. The trade weight has a central ring-and-dot motif and file marks are visible on the rear which is undecorated. A similar trade weight has been published and dated from the late eighteenth to the early nineteenth century (see 2).For information on trade weights with similar marks, see (3): 16-17.Dimensions: 30mm in diameter, 7.5mm in height, 25.5g.
