Full Description
<1> Earthworks Archaeological Services, 2014, Redevelopment of the Former Habitat Unit, Pepper Street, Chester. A programme of Archaeological Investigation (Client Report). SCH8191.
Excavation in 2014 encountered structural remains potentially dating to the 18th century were encountered. Also deposits producing particularly large finds assemblages. In Area 1, trench, 2 a significant quantity of ceramic and glass finds was recovered that had at one point clearly formed the fill to a feature, perhaps a cellar, located nearby but which had been subsequently disturbed and redeposited into a 20th-century pit] whose fill contained an assemblage of 18th-century finds. . A second large assemblage was recovered under a watching brief during the machine excavation of Area 3; this assemblage represented a widespread dumped deposit and was not contained within a pit or similarly restricted feature.
