Two areas of extractive pitting or quarrying along the north-western boundary of Edge Park are visible as extant earthworks centred at approximately SJ 4758 5043 on lidar imagery (see 2), though their survival on the latest 2010 aerial photography (see 3) is uncertain due to tree cover. The quarries are slightly larger in scale than the smaller extractive pits prevalent across much of the surrounding landscape, covering a total area of around 1.1 hectares (1-2). Identified by I Hardwick 13/12/2016.

Depicts a small quarry at the southern end of this section of the natural escarpment at Edge. A small L-shaped building is located within the quarry.

<5> Ordnance Survey, 1909-1912, Ordnance Survey Second Revision County Series (Epoch 3) 25 inch to 1 mile - Cheshire, SJ4750, 1911 (Maps and Plans). SCH4361.

A second access track to Scar Lane has been added at the northern end of the site along with a c.20m long bank aligned north-west to south-east. There's an obvious spoil heap at the southern end of the quarry. There is a crane located within the quarry and the building is no longer L shaped.

<6> Various, Various, Oral communication to the HER, Edwards R, 06/04/2017 (Oral Communication). SCH2330.

The quarry building is depicted on the 1839 tithe map for Edge (see 7), but there's no other indication of either the quarry or the escarpment. The LIDAR data (see 2) seems to indicate that further stone was extracted from the quarry after 1911 and this would appear to be confirmed by an aerial photograph dating from 1940 (see 8). This doesn't seem to be reflected on modern Ordnance Survey maps.
