The farmstead was first depicted on Bryant's 1831 map of Cheshire (see 2). However, the farmstead was named Dig Green on this map and may be associated with thirteenth and fourteenth century documentary references to la Dich(e), Dych€ and Dow (the ditch). The origin of the modern name is unknown.

<2> Bryant, A., 1831, Map of the County Palatine of Chester (Maps and Plans). SCH2114.

<3> Ordnance Survey, 1871-1882, Ordnance Survey County Series (Epoch 1) 25 inch to 1 mile - Cheshire, SJ9282, 1873-1883 (Maps and Plans). SCH2462.

The farmstead is clearly depicted on this map. The farmhouse is T shaeped in plan and a possible shippon, with smaller adjoining buildings, lies to the south-east.

<4> Ordnance Survey, 1896-1898, Ordnance Survey First Revision County Series (Epoch 2) 25 inch to 1 mile - Cheshire, SJ9282, 1897-1898 (Maps and Plans). SCH3848.

The possible barn has been extended (or replaced) into a H shaped range which includes a number of pigstys. An open sided Dutch barn is located to the south-west of this range.

<5> Huntings Surveys Ltd, 1971-1973, 1971-1973 County Survey (Aerial Photograph). SCH4881.

The last aerial photograph to depict the farmstead prior to it's demolition.

<6> Various, Various, Oral communication to the HER, Edwards R, 05/04/2017 (Oral Communication). SCH2330.

The ditch place-name (see 1) may derive from a feature demarcating the township boundary which the farmstead straddles.
