<1> Gifford and Partners, 2001, Report on an Archaeological Watching Brief at Deva Garage, 27 Grosvenor Park Road, Chester, R3957 (Client Report). SCH8165.
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken in 2001 during the excavation of groundworks at the former Deva Garage site, 27 Grosvenor Park Road. Roman deposits were identified comprising a cess pit and a trench, potentially a robber trench. The fills of both features contained pottery dating to the 2nd century AD. A 10 litre sample was taken of the fill from the cess pit. It was a dark grey clay matrix containing small pebbles and grit. A small quantity of charcoal was recovered, along with mammalian bone fragments from a variety of species. Several fragments of ceramic/tile were also recovered, as well as three small metal objects, one of lead and two of iron.
