An archaeological watching brief was undertaken in 2001 during the excavation of groundworks at the former Deva Garage site, 27 Grosvenor Park Road. Roman deposits were identified comprising a cess pit and a trench, potentially a robber trench. The fills of both features contained pottery dating to the 2nd century AD. A 10 litre sample was taken of the fill from the cess pit. It was a dark grey clay matrix containing small pebbles and grit. A small quantity of charcoal was recovered, along with mammalian bone fragments from a variety of species. Several fragments of ceramic/tile were also recovered, as well as three small metal objects, one of lead and two of iron.
