Summary

Two possible ring ditches identified from air photographs, together with a low, irregular mound observed in the field, all recorded in 1995 as part of an archaeological evaluation in advance of a proposed sand and gravel quarry in the Adlington Estate. These features have the potential to represent a prehistoric barrow cemetery.

An archaeological desk-based assessment, supplemented with field observation, was undertaken in 1995 in advance of a proposed sand and gravel quarry in the Adlington Estate. Two circular cropmarks were recorded from air photographs dating to 1993. Additionally, a low, irregular mound was observed in the field lying close to the two cropmark features. Together there is the potential that these features represent a prehistoric barrow cemetery.
