Full Description
<1> English Heritage/DCMS, Various, Notification of decision not to include on the List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest, Ellis V, 06/09/2013 (Written Communication). SCH5393.
This seafront shelter is raised up on stilts to carry it over a lower promenade. Historic maps indicate that it was built sometime between 1907 and 1927, although it has been suggested that the shelter was an original part of the promenade which opened in 1903.
<2> Ordnance Survey, 1927-1928, Ordnance Survey Second Revision County Series (Epoch 3) 25 inch to 1 mile - Lancashire, 1927 (Maps and Plans). SCH5041.
The earliest depiction of the shelter, though the earliest depiction of this part of the promenade dates from 1890 (see 3).
<3> Ordnance Survey, 1890, Metric Ten Foot Scale Town Plan of Widnes (Maps and Plans). SCH8086.
