Full Description
<1> Greater Manchester Archaeological Unit, 1991, Alder Root Farm, Winwick. An Archaeological Assessment, p.6, no.4 & 5 (Client Report). SCH4191.
Post medieval sand or gravel pits depicted on historic (1849) Ordnance Survey mapping. The pits fall into two types - shallow, circular examples and sub-rectangular, straight-sided examples. It is likely that they date to the 17th or 18th centuries.
