<1> L-P Archaeology, 2015, Archaeological Mitigation Report, Chronicle House, Chester (Client Report). SCH7949.
Large post medieval pit found during archaeological evaluation of a lift shaft prior the conversion of chronicle house in 2014. the Pit appears to have been excavated up to a Sandstone wall and is possibly a cess pit. The fill of the pit included typical domestic waste of the later 18th century and debris of the local manufacturing industry including waste firm a stoneware pottery kiln and fragments of sugar cone mould. The latter could be related to the nearby Sugar House (CHER11404) shown on Lavaux's map of Chester of 1745.
