Full Description
<1> Lovellock Mitchell, 2009, Historic Buildings Record. The Thomas Wedge CE Junior School, R3256 (Client Report). SCH6610.
School dating from 1852, built by Thomas Wedge, an agriculturalist who established himself on farms near Sealand, Flintshire. The architect and builder of the school are unknown. It was constructed in load bearing brickwork walls with a slate roof of timber construction, including a king truss over the rear classroom. It was extended in 1910 to provide an assembly hall, ablutions and a basement boiler room, also included changes to fenestration and addition of a portico. It was further extended in the late 1980's adding two classrooms and associated ancillary space to the rear of the original building. A final extension was completed in 2004 adding a further two classrooms and further ancilliary space.
The school was subject to an historic buildings survey undertaken in 2009 in advance of its demolition to make way for a new school building.
