Summary

the 1st edition OS map of 1874 shows a terrace of houses with an irregular rear boundary. These houses were demolished prior to the building of a bakery at this site in the 1950s. Archaeological work in 2015 uncovered the remains of the 19th century housing, heavily truncated by the Bakery construction.

The subsurface remains of these properties were heavily damaged by the development of the site in the 1950's from housing into the bakery.

The earliest historic map (1874) shows therear boundary of the houses is irregular along its length, in contrast to the rear boundaries of all other similar terraced houses in the area. This suggests that at the time if the houses construction, pre 1874, that there was either a feature such as a cutting or a quarry, or a different land owner that caused this irregular boundary.
