The tithe map and award for the township of Henhull record the name of a field as Causeway Field. An adjacent field (to the immediate south(, is recorded on the corresponding award for Nantwich, as Causeway Meadow. The former map shows a path crossing the field.

The placename may suggest that the path was once a road or trackway, or it may indicate a feature which facilitated the crossing of the brook between the two fields.
