Full Description
<1> Portable Antiquities Scheme, Various, Portable Antiquities Data Import, LVPL-AA7D76 (Digital Archive). SCH5212.
A flint core dating to from the Mesolithic to the Neolithic. The object is sub-rectangular in plan and sub-triangular in cross-section. On the dorsal face three parallel blades have been removed. A large bulb of percussion on the ventral face indicates that the object was struck with a hard hammer. At the proximal end the striking platform measures 18.22mm in width and is 6.33mm thick. The distal end is smooth and rounded. On the right-hand side of the flint (looking at the dorsal face) is a short length of short semi-abrupt retouch. Towards the distal end and along the left-hand edge there appears to be chips and breaks rather than intentional retouch. There appears to be just one striking platform from which the blades have been removed from the same direction. The platform appears to have been lightly dressed on its long (ventral) edge with semi-abrupt short retouch. The object is a light greyish brown in colour.
