Full Description
<1> Ormerod, G., 1882, The History of the County Palatine and City of Chester, Vol.III, p.79 (Book). SCH1389.
Kermincham Hall is a large ruinous building of brick, situated within a small park, which is inclosed with a high wall, also of brick, on the border of which is a modern building, called Kermincham Lodge, which is the occasional residence of the family. [The Hall (which by an inscription formerly over the door, seems to have been built by Roger Manwaring in 1718), was demolished about the year 1860.] The situation is flat, but in the immediate neighbourhood of much beautiful scenery on the banks of the Dane.
<2> See map for surveyor, c.1837-51, Cheshire Tithe Maps and Awards, EDT 222/2, 1839 (Maps and Plans). SCH3266.
A D shaped park is clearly depicted on this map with the hall located in the south western corner. The five enclosures to the north and north east of the hall are recorded in the acompanying award as 'Park'. The long enclosure to the east of the hall and a small enclosure to the immediate north of the house are recorded as 'Hall and Gardens'. The long enclosure connects to a long think enclosure which runs east-north-east to Kermincham Heath and is recorded as 'Walk to Kermincham Heath'. This is probably a wide drive.
<3> Various, Written Communication to the HER, Moth, B 05/11/2014 (Written Communication). SCH3756.
The 4-5' high brick walls of the former deer park remain intact, enclosing 52 acres, and probably date to 1718, ie. the same time when house and extant stables and dovecote were built. There is the possibility that the walls may be an addittion to a pre-existing (and earlier) deer enclosure.
<4> Ordnance Survey, 1896-1898, Ordnance Survey First Revision County Series (Epoch 2) 25 inch to 1 mile - Cheshire, SJ8067, 1897-1898 (Maps and Plans). SCH3848.
The drive appears to be no longer extant.
<5> Cheshire Gardens Trust, 2011 onwards, Research and Recording Report, Deer Park Farm, former Kermincham Hall (Report). SCH6655.
The early eighteenth century brick wall around a former deer park is the site’s most important feature. More than one mile long, the wall retains many of its original triangular coping bricks and is nearly complete - a rare survival in Cheshire, but not listed.
The associated hall, seat of the Mainwarings since C15, was demolished in the 1850s.
Principal features remaining:
c. 1718:
• Brick walls around former deer park and hall1
• Gatehouse and gate piers
• Stables and dovecote
• Vestiges of historic landscape: straight avenue, series of pools, garden area
c. 1850s:
• Kermincham Hall farmhouse
• Pond
