Monument record 7536 - Large Enclosure in Hatherton

Please read our .

Summary

This large sub-circular enclosure was thought to be a possible location for the Parcum de Hatherton, a medieval deer park mentioned in medieval documents (see CHER 2107). However, documentary and place name evidence suggest that this park was located to the north-west. This enclosure may be an area of land enclosed and subsequently subdivided.

During the HLC project was thought to be a possible location for the Parcum de Hatherton, a medieval deer park (see CHER 2107). However, documentary and place name evidence suggest that the park was located to the north-west. It may just be an artefact of the pattern of enclosure in the surrounding area and therefore reflect an area of land enclosed and subsequently subdivided.
