Full Description
<1> Portable Antiquities Scheme, Various, Portable Antiquities Data Import, DENO-4F0ED1 (Digital Archive). SCH5212.
Two complete but worn cast lead alloy spindle whorls of probable late Medieval to early post Medieval date. The whorls are circular in plan and bi-convex in section with a central circular perforation. Both faces of each whorl are decorated with linear designs some of which may or may not be intended to represent lettering but this is too worn to be legible. Cast lead weights, including whorls are difficult to date with accuracy. Based on the linear design/lettering this whorl has been dated as probably late Medieval to early Post Medieval, c. 1400-1800.
