A cast lead alloy spindle whorl probably dating from the Roman to the Post-Medieval period. The object is circular in plan and slightly conical. The object has a central circular perforation with an internal diameter of 10mm. One face is decorated with a series of moulded lines which radiate outwards from the perforation. The opposite face is decorated with a series of overlapping moulded lines creating a cross-hatch design. The object has a dark grey patina and is in fair condition. The edges of the object have been damaged.
Similar examples of spindle whorls have reportedly been found in contexts dated from the Roman through to the Post-Medieval period although the majority are typically dated broadly to the Medieval period c.1066-1500.
