A cast copper alloy pommel from a long sword dating from the eleventh to thirteenth centuries. The pommel is broadly oval in plan, with a curved upper surface and angular base. It is sub-triangular in profile. A small sub-rectangular cast hole is present on the upper edge positioned at the peak of the dome. The lower bottom edge has a larger irregular sub-rectangular cast hole. The inside of the pommel is hollow.
The base, which curves upwards at the ends, would have rested upon a concave pommel bar. There is very worn incised decoration present the surfaces of the pommel. The object has a mid-brown patina. Many pommels of this type were filled with molten iron or lead to counterbalance the blade.
