Full Description
Documentary evidence for a real tennis court to the rear of the Royal Oak Inn at No 44 Foregate Street, Chester in the mid to late 17th century. Records indicate it was a brick built structure approximately 34m by 12m with galleries on three sides and was built in around 1674-1676. It was subsequently converted into a theatre in 1767 and possibly demolished by 1794. (1)
