Summary

At Domesday, the baron of Halton was lord of this township. It is recorded as having land for one plough. In 1293 the manor was held by the Pooles of Poole, under the barons of Halton & is mentioned in the inquistions. In an inquisition post mortem I Edward VI (1547) it is recorded that Thomas Pole held messuages, lands and tenements in Capenhurst. Under the barons of Halton, the Capenhursts Cheneys & Cholmondeleys were successively lords of the manor. Capenhurst Old Hall was a large building of timber and plaster, in the style of the beginning of the 17th century and was taken down shortly after the purchase of Mr Richardson (1).The township was sold in 1790 to Richard Richardson & the hall was pulled down probably early in the 19th century (2).Park Farm, now occupies the site of Capenhurst Hall (3).Undulations at SJ36677373 have been interpreted as evidence of a deserted medieval village (4). However they appear to be ploughed out agricultural diggings (5).
