Full Description
<1> Portable Antiquities Scheme, Various, Portable Antiquities Data Import, LVPL-B35C28 (Digital Archive). SCH5212.
A cast lead alloy spindle whorl probably dating to the Medieval period, (AD1100-1500). The object is circular in plan and conical. The object has a large central circular perforation with an internal diameter of 8.91mm. The upper face of the object is decorated with worn moulded lines and pellets. The rear of the object is flat. The object has a light brown patina. Similar examples of spindle whorls have been found in contexts dating from the Roman through to the Post-Medieval period, however the most are dated to the Medieval period.
