A complete lead or lead alloy standing / pyramidal weight, of Medieval to Post Medieval dating (AD 1200 to AD 1600).
The weight has a square base, with a central circular depression. The sides of the weight have been facetted, forming four distinct sides, with bevelled corners. The sides gradually taper towards the top. A complete sub circular suspension loop is present at the top of the weight. The internal diameter of the suspension loop measures 4.3 mm. It measures 40.5 mm in height, 26.5 mm wide and 26.5 mm thick. It weighs 146.7 g or 5.17 oz. It is a light to mid grey colour, with an uneven surface patina. Abrasion, caused by movement whilst within the plough soil, has resulted in a loss of some of the original surface detail.
Several similar pyramidal / hexagonal weights have been recorded on the PAS database including LEIC-7EFD23, LEIC-D9C2D0, YORYM-F52F85, WILT-ECEC12, SF-0B04D3 and SF-D59B31. All are considered to be Medieval in dating (AD 1200 to AD 1600).
