Recent archaeological investigations to the north of Boughton Road encountered traces of Roman agricultural soils in several locaitions. The investigations comprised archaeological evaluation across a large development site.
The evidence comprised Roman soil horizons in two locations - trenches 5 and 6 some distance to the north of the Roman alignment of Boughton Road. Roman agricultural soils were encountered at a depth of approximately 1m below present ground level.
