Archaeological investigations on the north side of Foregate Street in 1977-1979 recorded quantities of medieval pottery fragments some distance to the north of Foregate Street suggestive of a possible kiln in the area.
The evidence comprised an assemblage of 277 fragments of medieval pottery vessels including 'waste' material (fragments of warped, burnt or rejected pottery) predominantly in the northern part of the site. Several fragments of floor tile were stylistically similar to that recovered at the medieval kilns in the Deanery Field in the 1920s and 1930s.
